On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania, you will receive a VIP meet and assist service, ensuring a smooth transition through arrivals. You will then meet your driver, who will take you to Legendary Lodge in Arusha for the night. The drive from the airport to the hotel is approximately 90 minutes, depending on traffic.
We have the safari section of the trip starting in the northern Serengeti at Sayari Camp. You will be driven to Arusha airport with Ninian (about 20 minutes) to fly to the Serengeti. On arrival you will game drive to the camp. With luck, you will catch the migration as it heads back into the Serengeti from Kenya. We have booked you the two-bedroom Sayari Retreat.
On the 27th, you will fly to Singita Grumeti Reserve by private charter. We have you staying at the four-bedroom Singita Serengeti House, one of Africa's finest private houses. The service there is of the highest standard. The food and wine are excellent. The kids will love the swimming pool. The House sits in the Grumeti Reserve, owned by Paul Tudor Jones, and encompasses about 350,000 acres of wilderness. The wildlife is fantastic, and the guides are excellent.
On the 30th, you will leave Tanzania and fly to Kenya. The flight will stop in Musoma to exit Tanzania and Nairobi to enter Kenya and to Lewa Conservancy to stay at Sirikoi Lodge, which sits on land adjacent to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Sirikoi Lodge overlooks a lush lawn and a busy waterhole, and it has a lovely vegetable garden that supplies the kitchen. There is a pool and good game drives. Sirikoi has full roaming rights on Lewa, an excellent location for seeing black and white rhinos, regular plains game, and predators. Some species you will see there are endemic to Northern Kenya, such as the Grevy's zebra and the reticulated giraffe. Sirikoi is among our favourite places to take guests. We are holding the three-bedroom private House for your family.
On the final day, we will fly you back to Nairobi by private charter to connect with your international flight home. You may need day rooms at a Nairobi hotel, but we can work this out once you have looked into flights.

About this area
Arusha is a convenient starting point for a safari in northern Tanzania, as most international flights arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport at night. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru, the town lies at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Most people are keen to head out on safari as soon as possible and tend not to spend much more than a night here.
Tanzania
New in 2023 the Retreats at Sayari are two two-bedroomed villas, which are a short drive away from the main Sayari camp.
The Retreats can be occupied either independently or together, they are ideal small groups of friends or family travelling together.
Each villa has a main lounge with two en-suite bedrooms either h side of the lounge. The villas operate independently from the main camp and each has a small kitchen with its own chef and butler, as well as its own safari guide and vehicle. A central area is located between the two villas with a dining area and another kitchen, ideal if a larger party is occupying both villas. There is also a small swimming pool.
About this area
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is a vast expanse of sprawling grasslands crisscrossed with the green veins of seasonal watercourses and dotted with grazing herds of game. An area of roughly 15,000 km sq, it is a jewel within the Greater Serengeti ecosystem and a haven for wildlife. In this vast wilderness you feel you can explore forever and never tire of it.
The northern Serengeti is home to good numbers of local resident wildlife throughout the year; it is a fantastic location for predators and the river is a permanent home for hippos and crocodiles. From mid-July to November, it hosts the great herds migrating between Kenya and Tanzania. An estimated two million wildebeest, half a million zebras, and countless other herbivores traverse the ecosystem during this time.
Choosing the right location within the ecosystem and the right season are of utmost importance, possibly more important than any other factors when planning your trip. We feel that the wildlife is phenomenal year-round in the northern Serengeti, with an incredible variety of different animals and good numbers of predators. However, during the few months of the peak tourist season the area can suffer terribly from overcrowding, which can detract from your experience. Our favourite time here is the low season when the migration isn’t in the area but all the resident wildlife is still spectacular and there are far fewer tourists.

This house embodies refined luxury, but isn’t over the top, and has a wonderful feeling of contemporary comfort. The four guest rooms are open and airy, and the heart of the house is a wonderful eat-in family kitchen which is one of the many touches that makes it truly feel like your home in the wilderness. There is a 25-metre swimming pool with an infinity edge overlooking the plains and you can acess the gym and tennis court at the nearby sister property Sasakwa.
The staff are discreet and attend to your every need.Be as formal or as casual as you feel like.
About this area
We feel that Grumeti Reserves,350,000 acres of private wilderness adjacent to the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, represents one of the greatest conservation success stories of the last decade. We have been visiting this area for the past fifteen years, and can't think of anywhere else that has achieved such positive change with regard to wildlife numbers.
Paul Tudor Jones, Singita and the Grumeti Reserves team have worked magic. Where there were barely any permanent herds there are now thousands of resident zebra, topi, impala and other plains game. Elephants used to be rare, but now herds of over a hundred individuals gather to socialize in a safe area. There is plenty to do here besides game drives. The Singita facilities and service are fantastic, but it's the wildlife that keeps drawing us back to this place. The area is home to large herds of mixed game and has a high number of predators.
While we feel this is a year-round destination, the rainy season usually occurs in April and May when game can be harder to see with long grass. The migration passes through between May and June though this can be hard to predict. It also passes through in October.
Kenya
The common areas are beautiful and inviting, filled with Roberts family photos, lovely art, comfortable seating and coffee table books. The lodge has a warm, welcoming feel, and the attention to detail is remarkable. With only a handful of tents and private cottages, Sirikoi offers a very high-quality, personal experience, combining zealous attention to detail with an unpretentious set-up, excellent food and friendly staff. The lodge overlooks a marsh fed by the Sirikoi Stream, shaded by giant acacia trees and dotted with wildlife.
Sirikoi House, a private retreat within the lodge, is a haven of luxury and independence. It features three bedrooms, a dining room, a sitting area, a large veranda with a fireplace, a separate kitchen, and its own vehicle. The house is an exclusive escape, perfect for families and groups of friends who desire independence and a piece of Africa to call their own during their stay. The house is a beautiful oasis, complete with its own swimming pool and a deck that overlooks the natural spring.
About this area
Lewa Conservancy is a 45,000-acre private conservancy that sits high on a 6000 foot plateau between the slopes of Mt Kenya and the dry arid deserts to the north. The scenery is spectacular with a lovely rolling landscape, big skies and rarified air. The wildlife is diverse and includes some of the species that are endemic to northern Kenya such a Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and gerenuk. It is also a Rhino conservation area and there are good numbers of both black and white rhino.
We love Lewa for the diversified game drives, fantastic hikes, and great variety and freedom. In addition, due to its location we can access areas of great interest outside the private conservancy such as the forests of Mt Kenya, Ngare Ndare’s magical Blue pools (both recognized as part of the UNESCO designated Mount Kenya World Heritage Site ), and the vast northern frontier district. Lewa has an excellent and unique relationship with its neighbouring communities, allowing for great opportunities to visit some of the local villages and schools to get a feel for their customs and culture.
During the greener months - from December to May - the great wildebeest migration takes place in the southern Serengeti and on the short grass plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the animals in their tens of thousands come to calve. This incredible spectacle is played out on the vast horizonless plains and offers an unparalleled safari experience. Combine this with a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, and Olduvai Gorge, where Lara’s grandparents, Drs. Mary and Louis Leakey made many of their initial discoveries of early hominids.
In the dry season - from late July to mid–October - southern and central Tanzania come into their own. Our favourite dry season areas in Tanzania include Ruaha, Tarangire, Katavi and Nyerere National Park. As the surrounding areas become parched, vast numbers of animals move in towards the last remaining water, resulting in concentrated numbers of animals. There are some excellent opportunities to walk in true wilderness.
If you go to southern Tanzania, a trip to the Mahale Mountains National Park to see the chimpanzees is well worth the effort. Hiking through the forest and tracking the chimps is an incredible experience, and spending time with them is a privilege. The mountains rise from the shores of Lake Tanganyika, whose crystal clear water is full of dozens of different species of fish and whose beaches are tranquil and picturesque.
Tanzania is different in the dry and wet seasons, and the best itineraries reflect this.
At its most spectacular in East Africa, the Great Rift Valley was formed some 20 million years ago and is a dramatically beautiful land of contrasts from the shores of the Indian Ocean with its white sandy beaches and coral reefs to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya and the wild and vast deserts of the north.
With year-round access to wildlife, there is no other country in Africa where one can see such an immense variety of birds, mammals and landscapes. Our favourite itineraries in Kenya combine time in our private mobile tented camp with stays at some of the best lodges on the continent.
We will include well-known areas, such as the Mara, in your itinerary and incorporate some of the more remote areas off the beaten trail. We love northern Kenya with its arid wilderness and animals, including Grevy’s Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe, which are endemic to the area.
We can visit the central highlands for a total change of pace. The Aberdare Mountains rise to over 12,000ft, climbing through montane forest to bamboo and moor lands, wildly different from the savannahs to the north. Mount Kenya is a playground for mountaineers, climbers and hikers, and its trout-filled tarns provide good fishing.
Kenya offers an incredibly diverse range of cultural experiences, from bustling modern cities to rural villages. We can visit the Masai, Samburu, Boran and Turkana, to mention a few, and experience first-hand the tug between the past and the future.
