Located on roughly six hectares on Kalagala Island, Wildwaters Lodge sits on a private island mid-stream of the River Nile, overlooking dramatic and exciting rapids downstream from Jinja in eastern Uganda. The lodge can only reached by boat.
The ten stand-alone elevated timber floors and suites are nestled in the rainforest with river views. They are linked by raised wooden walkways to the restaurant, bar and library. They feature glass-fronted windows, locally handmade furniture, bathrooms with rain showers, and wooden decks with daybeds and free-standing open-air bathtubs.
A swimming pool extends over the river next to the main communal area.
There is plenty to do here if you are looking for adventure, including heart-pounding white-water rafting, horse riding or fishing. Additionally, Wildwaters is a perfect platform for viewing some of the more than 1000 bird species that Uganda is so famous for – from turacos and cuckoos to hawks and eagles – and you might also spot giant otters and monitor lizards.
While children over 16 are welcome, parents must understand that the lodge is on an island surrounded by grade 5 plus rapids. They must be supervised at all times and will not be allowed to roam free on the island without being accompanied by an adult.

Jinja is a lively town with some interesting markets and unique little shops. The biggest draw for visitors is the fantastic opportunity for white-water rafting on the Victoria Nile, located just downstream of the town
