Angama Amboseli

Kimana Sanctuary and Amboseli National Park

Kenya

Log Out

Angama Amboseli, opened in November 2023, is located on the private Kimana Sanctuary, a 5,700-acre conservancy in a yellow fever tree forest with views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Ten tented suites fan out from the communal dining area, providing panoramic views of Kilimanjaro. Each suite features floor-to-ceiling screened doors leading to a private patio, a shaded seating area, and an outdoor shower.

Elephant references are notable throughout the property, including elephant-ear-shaped mirrors and an infinity swimming pool equipped with an elephant drinking trough.

Guests have exclusive use of the Kimana Sanctuary, where elephants, giraffes, and warthogs regularly pass through the camp. Game drives are also possible in Amboseli National Park, a 30-minute drive away along a new road sharing part of the elephant’s pathway.

There is plenty to do other than go on game drives. The lodge has an in-house masseuse, swimming pool, reading room, and games room. Guests keen to learn more about the area can arrange a visit to the Big Life Headquarters.

About This Area

The Kimana sanctuary makes up an important part of the Amboseli and Tsavo ecosystem, acting as a vital corridor for wildlife between the two protected areas. It is particularly famous as a haven for elephants that are migrating in and out of Amboseli National Park.

Amboseli National Park is blessed with massive springs that are formed by water percolating down from Mount Kilimanjaro that towers above the open plains. This water in turn forms massive emerald green swamps that are a tear around magnet for thousands of animals. There are plentiful herds of plains game as well as hundreds of species of birds that congregate at these oases in what is otherwise quite a barren landscape.

The Park and the Sanctuary are most famous for the large concentrations of elephant that can occur there. The ecosystem can provide some of the best elephant viewing in Africa. If you are lucky enough to see elephants with Kilimanjaro in the background it is an incredible spectacle.
