Tembo Plains
Greater Mana Pools - Sapi Reserve
Zimbabwe
Tembo Plains Camp is located in the private 128,000-hectare Sapi Private Reserve. This region is recognised as one of the finest wildlife destinations in Africa. The reserve lies in the Greater Mana Pools, an area renowned for its diverse ecosystems and home to large populations of elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and elusive wild dogs.
The famous Zimbabwe Ruins inspired the design of Tempo Plains Camp, with stone walls built into sections of the tents to reflect the medieval stone monuments built centuries ago; they offer privacy while allowing uninterrupted views of the Zambezi River.
The camp comprises four individual tents, each with a spacious indoor seating area, a small outdoor swimming pool and a veranda with a private dining area. In addition, the two-bedroom Tembo Suite is perfect for families or two couples, with two private suites joined by a shared lounge, dining area and outdoor pool. The camp offers guests camera equipment and high-quality binoculars to use during their stay.
Currently the only Relais & Châteaux property in Zimbabwe, the camp has a reputation for good food and excellent service. Day or night game drives, boat trips, canoeing or guided walks are available here.
About This Area
About the Area
The Greater Mana Pools is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in the northern region of Zimbabwe, on the southern banks of the Zambezi River, Mana Pools National Park is a wildlife-rich, biodiverse wonderland.
The landscapes are beautiful, dotted with acacia trees, whose shade becomes vital to the parks’ more than 12,000-strong elephant population in the dry season.
Over millennia, the Zambezi has changed its course, with the river’s old meanders leaving small oxbow lakes surrounded by lush vegetation and tall stands of ebony and mahogany trees. Within the national park, these oxbow lakes have created four large pools (‘m na’ being the Shona word for ‘four’, giving the park its name). Along with the permanent Zambezi River, these provide water and greenery, which attract a wealth of game.
