Serian Serengeti South

Southern Serengeti

Tanzania

Log Out

A stylish tented camp, Alex Walker's Serian Serengeti is a mobile tented operation in one of two locations in or around the Serengeti, depending on the time of year. Offering guests a simple, authentic bush experience, it's a relaxed and friendly camp with a luxurious edge.

Serian's Serengeti South is inside the western-most portion of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, bordering the short grass plains of the Maswa Game Reserve and southern Serengeti - within reasonably easy reach of both the Serengeti itself, as well as the Ngorongoro Crater (a two-hour drive away). Serian's Serengeti South offers complete isolation as it is the only tented camp in this area; it also offers adventure fly camping.

Four tents are suitable as a double, twin or triple. Then, two family tents consist of two interconnecting bedrooms with a central lounge.

The communal mess tent is where guests gather for a drink and dine together in the evenings. The dark canvas walls and antique sofas create a cosy, homely atmosphere.

From mid-December to May, the camp is set up on the southernmost extreme of the Serengeti's short grass plains in a prime position to spectate the wildebeest birthing. Birthing season aside, the camp has access to a million acres of stunning acacia-dotted conservation area – an incredible environment for exploring. Being among the local pastoralist Datoba, Masai and Hadzabe Hunter Gatherer and learning from them is one of the best things about this spot.

About This Area

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is a vast expanse of sprawling grasslands crisscrossed with the green veins of seasonal watercourses and dotted with grazing herds of game. An area of roughly 15,000 km sq, it is a jewel within the Greater Serengeti ecosystem and a haven for wildlife. In this vast wilderness you feel you can explore forever and never tire of it.

Vast short-grass plains cover the south of Serengeti National Park, stretching into the north of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Maswa Game Reserve. The majority of this area is flat open savannah, dotted with occasional small rocky outcrops, Kopjes. The plains are alive with grazing wildebeest from around late-November to April, although the precise timing of the migration is entirely dependent upon rainfall patterns each An estimated two million wildebeest, half a million zebras, and countless other herbivores traverse the ecosystem during this time.
