The Namiri Retreats are part of Namiri Plains Camp in the remote Eastern part of the Serengeti National Park in an area that was closed off to tourism for 20 years to create a haven for cheetahs. This is big cat country and undoubtedly offers East Africa's best cheetah viewing opportunities, it is one of Ninians favourite places in Tanzania.
The Namiri Retreats are private canvas and stone villas adjacent to the main Namiri Plains Camp. The design and style of the two villas echo the main lodge.
Each of the two Retreats features two full-size bedrooms (which can be made up as twin or double) with spacious ensuite bathrooms. The bedrooms have sliding doors opening onto the wraparound deck and views over the grassy plains. They each feature a sitting and dining room area that sits between the two bedrooms.
A private firepit is the perfect spot to enjoy sundowners at the end of the day. With a private chef on hand to prepare your meals, and a dedicated guide and vehicle at your disposal, the Retreats at Namiri Plains offer flexibility and exclusivity, perfect for families and groups of friends.
A shared swimming pool and additional area is situated between the two Retreats, for the exclusive use of Retreat guests. All amenities at the main camp, like the spa and swimming pool are open to guests in the Retreats.
About This Area
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is a huge expanse of sprawling grasslands crisscrossed with the green veins of seasonal watercourses and dotted with grazing herds of game. An area of roughly 15,000 km sq., it is a jewel within the Greater Serengeti ecosystem and a haven for wildlife.
The vast spaces of the eastern short grass plains will take your breath away. The plains are dotted with dramatic rocky outcrops. The Ngare Nanyuki underground river in the eastern Serengeti creates pockets of permanent water that support year-round game concentrations of plains game; the predator densities are incredible, especially for lions and cheetah.
If you visit between November and May, you may be fortunate enough to catch the migration as it passes through.
