Fanjove Island is part of the Songo Songo Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 140km south of Dar es Salaam, off the coast of Tanzania.

Fanjove Island Lodge has 18 beach villas discreetly located amongst the palms and natural vegetation. Each one overlooks the beach or the sea. The communal area is airy and spacious, similar to the villas. The main dining area is housed in the refurbished lighthouse.

A spa is available, with each treatment room offering a sea view and a variety of treatments and massages. The gym faces the ocean and the island has plenty of running paths if you enjoy running.

There is a dive centre, and other activities include snorkelling, kayaking, dhow cruises, deep sea fishing and SUP boards. Beyond the pristine beaches lie some of Tanzania's best coral reefs.

About This Area

Fanjove Island is south of Dar es Salaam, part of the Songo Songo Archipelago, an isolated group of five small islands off the coast of southern Tanzania. Protective reefs and dazzling white beaches surround the small islands.

Fanjove Island teems with marine wildlife, from turtles and puffer fish to herons and bottle-nosed dolphins. Its white sandy beaches are a nesting site for both green and hawksbill turtles, with the young hatching between April and July. Fanjove is home to many native birds, including herons, weavers and egrets; there are also a multitude of migrant species visiting its shores between November and March.

Over 10km of coral reef sit offshore which is home to a wide variety of marine life.

Diving is best between November and March.
