Duba Explorers Camp, part of the Great Plains collection, is tucked away in the northeast corner of the Duba Plains concession, a 33000 hectares private reserve in the Okavango Delta.
Due to its location at the Okavango Delta’s northern reaches, the surroundings are dominated by the permanent floodplain, interspersed with seasonal floodplains and grasslands and pockets of mopane and acacia woodlands.
The camp consists of five simple canvas tents, each raised on decking, stylishly furnished with a private verandah, and en-suite facilities. The tents have views of the Delta floodplains and, during the flood season, the water channels link to open water filled with flowering water lilies and tall papyrus.
The main area is set under canvas, on raised decking with an open-concept dining and sitting area.
Explore the water channels associated with the Ngoga River system by boat or traditional canoes (mekoro), meandering through channels created by hippos and elephants. The mekoro allows you to glide silently through the channel systems and experience a peaceful water world around you. With over 400 bird species, birding is unsurpassed, with spectacular species like the malachite kingfisher zipping past you in a burst of colour. You can go on game drives, guided walks exploring the islands, wetlands, and plains and there is also catch and release fishing on offer.
About This Area
The Okavango Delta was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. It is the world's largest inland Delta. During the flood season, waters push into Botswana from Angola, transforming the Kalahari into a lush oasis teeming with life.
The Delta is home to a wide variety of vegetation, including reed beds, papyrus swamps, and grasslands. These provide habitat for an astonishing array of wildlife, from large mammals like elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and hippos, to crocodiles, teeny frogs, fish, and numerous bird species. It is a thriving ecosystem adapted to its seasonal fluctuations.
The water experience includes gliding silently through the Delta's channels as you are poled along in "mokoros" or canoes and exhilarating adventures in much faster motor-powered aluminium speedboats. The land experience usually occurs in open Landrovers centering around wildlife with walks in some areas
