About This Area
Divided into four ecologically distinct areas – plain, swamp, river and scrub –Chobe National Park and the Savute area are renowned for great herds of elephants. As the dry season comes to an end in September and October, it’s common to see hundreds of elephants at once. Boat trips offer a fantastic way to view these enormous herds. Aside from elephants, the game viewing in Chobe is exceptional, featuring a diverse range of animals and birds. The Chobe River, near Kasane, is the only place in Botswana where puku are found, often in the company of lechwe and impala.
To the north, there is the Serondela sector, an area drained by the Chobe River. Rich in buffalo, home to the white-fronted bee-eater, it is also the gateway to Victoria Falls, just across the border in southern Zambia.
Chobe National Park is a fantastic introduction to Africa and, for specialists, a guaranteed elephant experience. It can be busy in peak season.
