Beagle Expeditions's Kweene Trails is a lightweight mobile tented camp owned and hosted by Marleen and Simon Byron. It operates in Abu Private Reserve in the Western Okavango Botswana. Their exclusive area lies on a stretch of the Kweene River system adjacent to the Sandveld tongue. The area is remote and accessible only by helicopter.
Driven by the urge to get off the beaten track and explore some of Botswana's remotest corners, they have designed a lightweight but comfortable expedition-style camp with all the essentials: healthy and fresh food, ice for the perfect gin and tonic, a comfy bed, and hot water for a refreshing bucket shower. There is no better way to experience an authentic African Safari than in the comfort and privacy of a mobile safari camp.
You will start the adventure at Kweene River Camp in the southern part of the Kweene River, where you will spend two nights exploring the area. You then move North up the Kweene River system to the second camp, Magwegwe Camp, situated in the seasonal flood pain, where you stay two nights. One of the most unique and memorable parts of a Beagle expedition is 'moving day' when you move to the second camp on foot, mokoro, or game drive arriving in the late afternoon.
Every expedition is different, depending mainly on the season, the level of recent rains, and the guests' interests. You will do a mixture of walking, exploring waterways by boat, mokoro (dugout canoe), or game drives. Please note that Kweene Trails can be booked exclusively or as a shared, set departure experience. Wi-Fi is unavailable, and there is no phone signal, allowing you to escape it all.
About This Area
The 4-night expedition has been designed to explore one of Botswana's last remaining remote wilderness areas, venturing into little-visited regions and providing guests with a once-in-a-lifetime experience of a completely different pace and tempo. This exclusive area lies on a stretch of the Kweene River system adjacent to the Sandveld tongue in the Western Okavango Delta. What makes it most special for us is its remoteness, which makes it accessible only to guests taking part in an expedition.
